If you ask any diver where is good to dive in Indonesia, surely they will tell you the Gili Islands; and there is reason for that. Characterized by good visibility and warm water year round, the ease and enjoyment of Trawangan’s diving is a magnet for both experienced and inexperienced divers.
Diving the Gili’s will surely get you ticking off your must see wish-list as highlights include turtles, reef sharks, manta rays and cuttlefish. A colourful array of weird and wonderful creatures await divers on multiple dive sites, all within twenty minutes transit on more often than not, very smooth seas.
The variety of life here is astounding, and on a night dive your expectations will be further supassed. Resident critters big and small include frog fish, ghost pipefish, harlequin shrimp, leaf fish, octopus (even the elusive Blue Ring!), nudibranchs, tuna, lobsters, ribbon eels, and the list goes on. The corals here are a perfect backdrop for photographers and naturalists alike as the colors seem to jump off the reef.
There are in excess of sixteen dive sites here. The high speed purpose built dive vessels make multiple departures daily, allowing BDA to cater to a broad range of diver needs with ease. Bali Diving Academy’s intimate knowledge of the Gili Islands let you enjoy daily dive trips around the three Islands. All descents are made in small groups, carefully guided by full time, fully insured, certified dive masters, who are in tune with Trawangan’s reefs and rhythms. Bali Diving Academy Tulamben recognises their responsibility to protect the Gili Islands region’s unique marine environment. The team were integral in the facilitation of the 2006 Biorock® Workshop which resulted in reef regeneration structures or “Coral Arks” creating habitat in which coral thrives and juvenile fishes can survive to breeding age.
BDA also play an active role in vocational training programs, scientific studies, and environmental audits and maintain ongoing liaison to ensure protection and management of the region.
BDA are the recipients of numerous awards. Environment and minimum impact initiatives include a reef monitoring program, underwater naturalist trail, investment in waste water treatment and desalination, community initiatives and recycling programs.
