Dive Fiji – Kadavu

Arriving in Kadavu you are sure to get the feeling you have stepped back through time. It could be the absence of roads, the dramatic backdrop from the rainforest drenched hillsides or the palm fringed white sandy beaches. A stay here is sure to leave you reenergized and simply in awe of the mystical beauty that is Kadavu.

Kadavu is part of the island nation of Fiji which is comprised of roughly 322 islands, in the vast blue of the Pacific Ocean. Kadavu is located about 100km south of Viti Levu, one of Fiji’s two major islands.

Just beneath the surface of the crystal blue waters surrounding Kadavu you will find the world renowned Great Astrolabe Reef, the fourth largest barrier reef system on the planet. Among this 100 km long stretch of hard coral slopes, wall drop offs and numerous caverns and caves, a mass of marine biodiversity awaits. In some areas the reef has separated to form great pinnacles, some of which have become cleaning stations for the eight species of shark and the majestic manta rays that frequent these waters. However, it is the seemingly never ending supply of steep, soft coral covered drop offs which has made Kadavu become known as the soft coral capital of the world.

The interior of this magical island is equally as rich and abundant as its reefs, with few roads to interrupt the rugged beauty. Trek through the lush rainforest, plunge into one of the numerous waterfalls, go in search of the celebrated Kadavu musk parrot, or simply sit back with the locals enjoying the fire and local songs. The smiling faces of Fiji will never leave you.
